Earn Money with Your Home EV Charger

Do you charge your electric vehicle at home? Starting in 2026, your charging station may offer more than just convenience. With the new ERE certificates, you may be eligible to receive compensation for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) you charge at home. Depending on your charging habits, this could amount to hundreds of euros per year.
If you drive an electric vehicle and mainly charge it at home, an attractive new scheme may become available from 2026 onward. Through ERE certificates, you could receive compensation for every kWh charged. However, your charging station must meet certain requirements.

What Are ERE-Certificates?

ERE stands for Emission Reduction Units (Emissiereductie-eenheden). These certificates demonstrate how much CO₂ emissions are avoided through electric driving and home charging.
The scheme was developed by the Dutch Emissions Authority (Nederlandse Emissieautoriteit). Its goal is to make sustainable transportation more attractive. Companies that place fossil fuels on the market are required to surrender EREs. The proceeds can then be distributed to EV owners who charge their vehicles at home.

What Type of Charging Station Do You Need?

Not every charging station automatically qualifies. You need a charging point equipped with a certified MID meter. This meter accurately records the amount of electricity actually delivered to your vehicle.
A separate MID meter installed in your utility cabinet is not sufficient. The meter must be integrated into the charging station itself. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate annually how many kWh you have charged, either automatically or, for example, by submitting a photo of the meter reading.
Charging stations within a homeowners’ association (VvE) setup may also qualify, provided they have an integrated MID meter.
Not sure whether your charging station meets the requirements? Contact your supplier for confirmation.

How Much Can You Receive?

The compensation depends on the number of kWh you charge at home and the market value of ERE certificates. For 2026, an estimated compensation of approximately €0.10 per charged kWh is being used.

How Do You Register?

Registration is handled through a registration service provider (inboekdienstverlener). This party takes care of registering your charging station, processing the charged kWh data, handling payments, and managing the administrative process.
You only grant read-only access to your charging station data. The settings of your charging station cannot be changed. The authorization remains valid for at least one calendar year.
